Bridge Pier Investigation
HRL recently completed a bridge pier investigation for a local geotechnical firm. This involved drilling soil borings to the side and through the bridge deck itself. A seven inch hole was cored through the bridge deck and our ODEX drill stem was lowered into the water. We used this system to drill through the river gravels to the top of bedrock. We then cored 10-15 in sandstone bedrock through the ODEX casing. The attached pictures show the actual rig and hole on the bridge deck and pipe extending through the deck and into the river below. The remaining pictures show the sandstone core after it was removed from the core barrel.
